Yes the manga drawing competition from NUS, with 2 catagories to choose from

Charater Design


Which is to, create a character of your own, with background and everything. Things can be done in 2 ways, Digitally or Traditionally.

No Team Work allowed in this category of the competition…

Submission to be in A3, digital creator advised to use 300dpi

Things to submit




Besides the hardcopy artwork, particpants are also required to submit the following:

  • Short summary - A short paragraph of not more than 150 words introducing your chosen festival and the relevance of it to the theme.

  • Work process in CD or DVD (digital category only) - Series of pictures taken throughout the process of your drawing to proof the originality of the work. For example, some pictures of the process of sketching and some pictures while the artwork is being coloured. The CD or DVD should also contain the final artwork file.

  • Submission form - Just fill up all the information in this form. You can download this form here.

Short Story


To Create your own or form a team to make a manga. For the Open Category and the Team category, the page limit is 2 to 8 and 4 to 16 respectively.

below is some of the rules for the manga category.

Rules and conditions - Short Story Manga


Some of the rules are as follow:

  • Participants of age 6 – 12 and studying in Primary School will enter the competition under “Primary: Manga”. For participants of age 12-18 and studying in Secondary School or Junior College in Singapore, they will enter the competition under “Secondary: Manga” while participants of age 17-30 and does not fall into the Secondary category will enter under “Open: Manga”. The participants for these three categories will enter the competition as individual.

  • Participants in Primary, Secondary and Open division can also pair up and participate under “Team: Manga”.

  • For Primary division, the page limit is 1 – 2 pages while the page limit for secondary division is 2 – 4 pages. The page limit for Open and Team division is 2 – 8 pages and 4 – 16 pages respectively.

  • The manga can be drawn using traditional medium (eg. ink, water colour or pencil) or computer program (adobe photoshop, illustrator, etc).

  • The artwork must be in A4 size on a single side.

  • The manga will be graded based on the hardcopy. The medium for creation will not be a factor during grading.

Any creation which is touched up with any form of digital imagining is considered a Digital Submission. Traditional Submission can use the following mediums, like ink, water colour or pencil, but no charcoal.

You can read up the grading criteria for both the category at the about page. And if anyone wants to participate you can also get the registration form from the Singapore Toys and Comics Fair tomorrow(28th June) at the NUS’s graphite booth.
