Toshokan Sensou; Library War

It’s the end of a very good series, despite much complains about it’s ridiculous anime physic. Toshokan Sensou made a good run in this rather dry anime season… But how do I feel about this anime, it’s story and etc.

A story of this 22 year old girl in the army… and thru her the uncovering of the political landscape of Japan in the year 2019.

MDA MBC(Media Betterment Committee) formed under the MBA(Media Betterment Act), threaten the world’s story books, dictionarys or anything written. And the library fought against them…

That is a long enough introduction…

Most people who saw the first few episode might find that the setting is stupid… with a government forming 2 groups to fight against each another. However I can’t help but applause the setting, since its refreshing, utterly confusing and at the same time politically viable,Well it can really happen in Japan, even Taiwan with all the tabloids attacking the government and such, fighting to protect the freedom to information. Such a great goal!

And to fight the MBC, we have this very independent library, which has to be the 2nd most powerful library I have seen in an anime after the British Library in R.O.D(Read Or Die).

They are fighting a war with a bunch of people standing outside their gates, telling them to stop fighting, but aren’t they the good guys? Yes they must be, and those must be the MBC people dressed in civilian doing passive attacks.

Then we have the addition of the Shojo part of the story, looking to find her prince charming, and at the same time Save The World, well not really. It should be the main point of the story, but the background setting is unfortunatly more interesting. Not that it’s boring, her story adapting to the task force and her “fights”, along with finding true love and her bunk-mate Shibasaki.

Yah, Shibasaki, the Librarian first class and then Chief Librarian, is the greatest intelligence officer ever… She is so good that it seems like almost all intelligences in the show came from her. Is there noone else already?

The other characters well I won’t talk about them…

Well, maybe except Genda… The very brave and smart captian of the task force. Thanks to him the MBC is going to have a very bad PR crisis and either the coffin maker will have two more business(1 for him, 1 more for the person who killed him) or the bullet proof shirt company will receive the best endosement ever.

So how is the anime to me… Great! It’s an anime that i would recommend to many people, for It’s deep for those who wants to think deep and simple for those innocent enough. But this anime is by no means perfect… and definately should not become the best of the year.

Maybe it can be made a bit longer with 22 episode to further talk about Kasahara, especially the promotion exam, the Internal Audit and even the whole Ibaraki Prefecture act.

About the opening and ending songs… they are especially memorable

hitomi-takahashi

Opening song “Atashi no Machi, Ashita no Machi” (あたしの街、明日の街), performed by Hitomi Takahashi is great, with the sound of Hitomi clear and easy on the ears as per always.

base-ball-bear

Ending song “Changes”, performed by BaseBall Bear is the better one. Quick pace and yet singable, it round up the anime better.

And so to production I.G, good job, but it will better if you have cut cost by abit…

Let get to episode 12 and end the anime, won’t be surprise if there is a second season thou.

If you want to know more then what is show in the anime, you might want to find the novel.

Now for the disclaimer, the above is how i feel about the anime Toshokan Sensou, it is in no way representing SP LifeArts.
